Our
time on Hong Kong was purposely short, we did not want to get enmeshed in any
violence. Fortunately there did not appear to be any happening while we were
there. No stoppages, no protests, no delays on public or air transport. No sign
of discontented people even....
The highlight for me was the city lights in the evening.
The streets were bustling and fun. I enjoyed the city skyline and buildings we saw. Samuel liked the cat we saw which fiercely guarded the wares in its shop.
Samuel and I ate a lovely Hong Kong lunch of curried noodles and for dinner we tried guess what - that quintessentially Hong Kong food: maccas. What a shame.....
Eric had gone for a run and wanted to show Samuel and I the park he found and the pier from which we were to get a last glimpse of our ship. It was fun to go through the park, especially when we came across some cats - Samuel was delighted. The park also had flamingos and a network of pretty gardens. Also there were hardly any people. We did not linger long, as I wanted to see the sunset over the pier.
And what a view, not so much the sunset although that was beautiful, but the city lights. I was amazed. The buildings had flashing lights over their sides. Some sported Christmas messages while others had advertising or Christmas themed moving light shows. I enjoyed looking round at it all.
One building gleamed blues and greens and then changed to reds and purples like the sunset. I think perhaps the lights were supposed to be an attraction? Something from the exit survey Eric completed made me think perhaps it was. In any case it was fun.
Our trip to the airport on the public transport network was uneventful. All in all pleasant but I’d like to go again when there is no threat of violence to experience the food some more.

The building was straight and fine this was just the artistic angle of the photographer |
