After a long drive across the plains of southeastern Wyoming we made our way into South Dakota. The small town of Hot Springs provided a good location for exploring the nearby Wind Cave NP although jet lag meant that our exploring wasn't very vigorous. We also didn't bother with the hot springs. Mostly we just got a taste of life in the US Midwest for two nights and a day. Like eating ribs from a food van... They were a bit sweet but the flavours were good.
Wind Cave NP is home to one of the longest cave systems in the US. Unfortunately the caves were closed to tourists when we visited. However the scenery above ground was interesting. We saw lots of Bison, Prairie Dogs and Deer and Eric even saw a snake while on a trail run.
Hot Springs was really just a stop to have a bit of r&r on the way to some of the more famous nature sites in South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. While it lacked the jaw dropping scenery of many other locations we had recently visited it was interesting enough in it's own right as a stop on our Midwest road trip.
