Wolfratshausen is the large village/small town/outer commuter suburb of Munich where we are spending four weeks through August and early September. It's been a great place to take a break from our intense journey with the chance to sleep in the same place for weeks with no packing and unpacking required! We have been fortunte to stay in a lovely apartment. Our hosts Wolfgang and Hildegard have been fabulous and Elise has had plenty of opportunities to use her German language skills. The neighbourhood is very nice and quite prosperous.
The river Isar flows just to the east of town. The river is quite large as it drains a substantial area in the Barvarian Alps and the river valley is well forested which has been good for Eric to find plenty of nice places to run. Wolfratshausen itself is close enough to the Alps that it gets a lot of rain and sometimes some quite impressive storms...
Staying in the one place has other advantages. With an Aldi and Lidl just up the road and a well equipped ktchen our food bills have dropped precipitously. There' is a number of nice restaurants in town so we haven't skimped too much. Surprisingly after our search for Munich's best Schnitzel, we finally found it an unpretentious looking restaurant at the local sports ground. Ralf the owner and his crew at Musto's cook up some great German food just 500 meters from our apartment. The cutlets and schnitzel were so good we went back for a second visit.
It was sad finally leaving Wolfratshausen however the sadness was tempered with excitement knowing we were on our way to Iceland.
