The countryside south of Munich is a great place for the citizens of Bavaria to enjoy some gentle relaxation, moderate exercise or simply have a nice day out. It's a very well off part of the world. The Starnbergersee (Lake Starnberg) in the heart of Barvaria epitomises this. The lake is surrounded by nice (narrow) lanes for cycling and slow driving with picture postcard vistas of the lake and small villages.
We took a short drive from Wolfratshausen taking in some of the eastern and southern lake shore. The drive was quite slow as we hit the edge of the lake with the narrow road ensuring we weren't travelling much faster than the cyclists (cyclists outnumbered cars about 10:1). Our outward trip ended in the town of Seeshaupt where we enjoyed lunch at an Italian restaurant followed by ice creams.
On the way home we passed a festival held in a farm field. It seemed that farm girls and boys would meet at the festival with the boys then driving the girls home on the back of their tractor. Being a German festival we assume beer was involved so we were rather careful overtaking.
