Garmisch


Eric and Elise spent a week in Garmisch many years ago and we really enjoyed the stay.  This time we only visited for half a day, commuting down the autobahn from Munich.  While you can't do much in half a day, we still enjoyed a sample of the alpine air and a very short break in the beautiful Bavarian Alps.

The hiking around Garmisch is superb.  Originally we had planned to take the Wankbahn up Mt Wank where we could get lunch at the Wank-haus (stop giggling).  However the weather was a bit overcast so we decided to change plans.  Instead we choose the short but very popular hike through the Partnach Gorge, a spectacular canyon carved out by rushing water.





After traversing the narrow gorge, the weather was looking much better so we took the high path back to town which gave us the chance to see a bit more of the mountains.



Sam's reward for walking was a couple of trips down the Alpine Slide (Eric had a go too).


Lunch was schnitzel in town followed by cakes and chocolate.  I'm not convinced we walked far enough to merit such excess consumption, but it was all very nice.



In hindsight we wished we had made more time to spend in Garmisch but alas it wasn't to be.

Inca Trail day 4

This was the day we would arrive at Macchu Picchu so we awoke with a keen sense of anticipation.   To celebrate the last day on the trail, somehow the chef had whipped up an enormous cake which was served after breakfast.  After a discussion with Marco about the likely weather over the next two days we agreed that it would be best to tour Macchu Picchu as soon as we arrived in mid afternoon rather than wait until tomorrow. Marco assured us that this would mean less crowds and better weather (he was right). My thoughts about Chile

What I think about Chile is that it has beautiful scenery. Including glaciers, mountains and snowy peaks. I have taken some pictures*. I fancy myself as a bit of a photographer. I like taking photos of cats**. I have seen some beautiful hanging glaciers and seen some beautiful walks. I took some pictures. One was 18 km and two were 6 km. Most of the 18 km one was climb and boy was it hard going. *photos here **sorry no cat photos today

Tampa: Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens in Tampa is part of the SeaWorld suite of entertainment parks.  It's fair to say that (for Aussies), it would run distantly behind Disney and Universal in terms of name recognition.  However it shouldn't - it provides kids and adults with one of the best days of entertainment that you can imagine for a cheaper price than you pay at the Orlando parks. A Florida animal park wouldn't be complete without gators Firstly the park has one of the best zoos imaginable.  Most of the 'big' animals are represented (gorillas, lions, tigers, elephants, hippos, exotic birds, lemurs, snakes etc).  There's even Aussie favourites (kangaroos, emus, echidnas).  The enclosures are interesting and stimulating for the animals and provide great layouts for spectators to view the animals up close.  They also have a large open plains area where you can take a train past free roaming zebras, antelopes, rhinos and giraffes Nice topiary too!
