After Masters we took the short bus hop from Riga to Tallinn. We had been to Tallinn before (or several times in Eric's case) but as it was so close to Riga and as it's such a nice city, another short visit was easy to arrange.

Tallinn's Russian Orthodox cathedral was built for both political and religious reasons |
After Masters, Gordon was also in town so we met up with him in the Central Square of the Old Town and joined a free city tour. The tour climbed up to the western side of the old town where we saw the old city wall, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and Estonia's pink Parliament building before taking in the spectacular view over the rooftops of the lower part of the old town.

Parliament is pretty in pink |
After descending from the top of town (avoiding the many stores selling amber and other trinkets) we had another look at the old city wall from a different angle. The tour finished in the central square where it was medieval market day.
As it was medieval market day, after Horton Sam had another chance to practice ancient sports and games. Though it seemed like others did most of the hard work...

The overcast morning gave way to a perfect afternoon |

Tallinn is a vey interesting city to visit. Apart from the lovely buildings, there are many fine restaurants, the public transport is excellent and Estonian people are generally a very friendly bunch, who love to make fun of their Latvian neighbours.
