Happy birthday to Samuel - and what better way to celebrate than a journey to Legoland theme park. And quite a journey by train and bus it was. We left our apartment at 6.15 in the morning and didn't get home until 11.30pm.
Arriving just before opening time was a good move. It allowed us to book Samuel into one of the limited places in Lego driving school. Eric remembers doing the same thing 38 years ago in Billund! After some instruction running through the road rules, the kids were set loose to drive around a simulated town with traffic lights, roundabouts and even a car wash - not really necessary as it started drizzling when Sam got behind the wheel. At the end the drivers were presented with their genuine Legoland drivers licences.
Legoland had a small onsite factory where we could see how Lego bricks were manufactured...
And quite a few shops where we could participate in how they are retailed...
Within Legoland there was a number of themed locations like the Egyptian section with displays and rides etc. Such as the fire truck ride where a team (our family) had to drive down a track, put out a fire and return to base racing against other groups (cause the ancient Egyptians were famous for their pyramids, cats and err fire trucks).
Samuel and Eric enjoyed a few other rides though it was all pretty tame compared to Florida.
The real highlight is of course the Lego models and the park had many very impressive layouts, particularly of various German Cities...
It wasn't just Lego however. The park also featured an aquarium...
And a really cool stage show featuring comedy and acrobatics all in one (that Egypt theme again). It was a bit unusual but very entertaining, very acrobatic and quite funny
There was some good models scattered around the park in various places.
We left the park about 7pm for the long trip home.

You had to be there to really appreciate the humour... |

As I said, you had to be there... |
"Daddy, give me the camera". "Hang on Sam, just a couple more shots..." |
