After a week in in remote Morocco, Marrakesh is a confronting experience. Narrow streets, fast mopeds, everyone wants to sell you something - whenever you step out of the Riad you need to be prepared!
Of course we had to visit the souk. We looked at a wide range of shops without buying anything. Frankly we were tired of the hard sell and for our shopping we went to the Ensemble Artisinal. Part shops and part workshops, the Ensemble Artisinal allows craftsman and artisans in training to practice their crafts with the resulting products for sale at very cheap prices without the hard sell. We brought a few things, mainly leather goods.
We had some more great meals, one at our own Riad where we shared a scrumptious Lamb shoulder and another dinner in a rooftop bar where Eric found the most magnificent steak.
There were some interesting sights if you stepped away from the Medina, particularly near to the city walls. The Koutouba Mosque (built in the 12th century) and public garden next door were a short walk from our Riad and made for a good excursion when we decided to go for a stroll.

The souk - this street was unusually empty of mopeds and people |
