The Science museum in South Kensington has been entertaining children and adults for over 160 years. It's particularly noted for its many wonderful machines and mechanical contraptions. If you are looking to understand the history of flight, how clocks developed or how the steam engine was invented then this is the place to visit.
Elise and Eric even got to take part in research exploring how people react to various stimulus using a series of very lifelike 3D scenarios. It was our first in depth experience into the world of virtual reality (sorry we couldn't take any photos).
There were a lot of computer based exercises and simulations covering things like town planning, building the electrical grid of the future and climate change. We actually found some of these a bit boring, in our view the highlights of the museum are definitely the machines!
After we left the museum our science day was not over. At the nearby Ampersand hotel we partook in a traditional English High Tea with a decidedly non-traditional Science theme. We got to mix our own drinks and the food included such delights as Dark Chocolate and passionfruit planet mousse and Lime and Coconut half moon cake.
Finally we finished our day exploring the science of retailing at Harrods.
