Wow that is saying something but it isn’t just me, even National Geographic agree...... El Ateneo Grand Splendid must be the most gorgeous book shop I have ever seen! It is a reclaimed theatre and has been restored and adapted in a very respectful way. One can browse ones selections in a theatre box, or just enjoy the splendour of the many levels, painted ceiling or reclaimed stage (coffee shop). The bottom level is given over to records (yes vinyl)) and children’s books.
We were suitably impressed. The English section is very small but we still procured a book for Samuel and he also saw a number of familiar titles in Spanish. Eye opening for him. Lovely for all.
The rest of the day was spent wandering the streets, taking in some of the more notable buildings. We also gorged in some very rich ice cream from Rapanui, one of the famous Argentinian chocolate shops we had also visited in Bariloche. Yum.
