I've always wanted to visit Iguazu falls. In terms of our travel plans it was a bit out of the way so first it was on the itinerary, then off, then on again. I'm glad we went in the end. It was amazing.
Rather than one massive cascade, the falls are a combination of over two hundred separate falls (some of these ARE massive of course). From the Argentinian side it's impossible to get a complete view of the major falls from one point, but you do get to walk around many trails visiting different lookouts and seeing different perspectives from small waterfalls in the middle of the jungle to grand cascades where water gushes over at thousands of cusecs (cubic feet per second). We covered well over 10km by foot which was a bit of a shock given we had well and truly hit the tropics.
There was a lot of wildlife around, especially birds hovering above the falls and the cute but sometimes annoying Coati who are always looking for tourist handouts.
Walking through the jungle provided welcome shade from the fierce sun while still providing some great views.
The highlight of the day was visiting the Devils throat. A long catwalk and series of footbridges takes you right out over the lip of the throat where you are guaranteed to get saturated. It's impossible to see the foot of the falls for all the spray.
We finished the day with ice creams back at town.
